SAGIO’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection examines the shifting nature of self-perception, moving beyond the fractured identities of its prior work to question how individuals recognize themselves. The show presents identity as an ever-changing reflection, never stable but constantly adapting to light, motion, and perspective. A single figure can appear unified from one viewpoint yet fragmented from another, embodying the balance between strength and vulnerability, control and emotion, restraint and openness. The line between what is revealed, concealed, or altered in each moment becomes the collection’s core inquiry.
Water functions as the collection’s guiding metaphor, capturing the tension between stillness and movement. When water remains motionless, it appears clear, but once set in motion, it disperses and reconfigures without losing its fundamental nature. This duality informs the garments’ design: rigid structures are disrupted by flowing drapes, twisted seams, and sculptural shapes that shift with the body. Reflective fabrics and translucent layers interact with light, altering how a silhouette is perceived from different angles. Some pieces retain sharp edges, while others dissolve the body into folds and reflections, reinforcing the idea that identity is both constructed and perpetually evolving.
Marie Antoinette vs. Veruschka’s Clashing Legacies
The collection draws inspiration from two historical figures: Marie Antoinette and Veruschka. Antoinette’s clothing served as a deliberate tool of power, crafting a public image despite the criticism she endured. In contrast, Veruschka used camouflage, body paint, and staged transformations to blur distinctions between humanity, nature, and environment. The designs contrast these approaches—one constructs identity through performance, the other dissolves it through transformation—illustrating how self-perception operates as both a fixed framework and an ongoing process.
Designer Alexander Sagio reflects on the creative conflict underlying the collection. Fashion pushes us to move faster, produce more, and respond endlessly to what’s already been seen. But he believes our real responsibility is different: not to repeat what exists, but to protect the freedom to make something personal, something that carries real feeling, not just another familiar image. The Spring/Summer 2027 show, titled REMIX XVIII REBORN, frames this rebirth as an act of self-recognition, the point where fragmented aspects of identity no longer feel contradictory but merge into a continuous, evolving whole. The most compelling moment, he suggests, occurs when catching a reflection and acknowledging something inherently personal.
Architectural Precision Meets Sensual Craftsmanship
Sagio’s architectural background influences his design method, translating structural precision into fashion through clean lines, contrasting volumes, and unexpected proportions. His work merges technical craftsmanship with sensuality, drawing comparisons to designers like Azzedine Alaïa and Thierry Mugler while incorporating delicate lingerie details, particularly in the emphasis on the torso as a focal point. The brand targets intellectually driven individuals who balance confidence with understated elegance, harmonizing instinctual energy with refined sophistication.
Privileging noble materials, such as wool, silk, leather, or linen, SAGIO prioritizes authenticity as well as true luxury, which he envisions as the intimate and personal expression of one’s character and honest desires. His clothes are playful, resolute, and timeless at the same time, using atelier techniques that rely on expert skills and exquisite craftsmanship. Inspiration comes to the designer in multiple ways, whether it be a person, a fabric, a sentence or a gesture.
It could also be music, which he always listens to while designing, or something indirect that triggers his senses. There are no written rules when it comes to the process of garment-making, and no preconceived ideas either. Instinct, nature, and behavior are topics SAGIO is clearly versed in, observing, and absorbing, the world around him while processing its intricacies through his own creative lens.
